Other Mexico

The Colonial Cities

Experience the essence of Mexico in its capital city and the towns that surround it. There’s festive Aguascalientes… Guadalajara, with exquisite handicrafts (and tequila factories)… spiritual Oaxaca, with its ancient monasteries… charming San Miguel de Allende, and Zacatecas, tucked in the mountains.

Vibrant Mexico City is the world’s oldest and largest capital. Landmarks such as the National Museum of Anthropology, Teotihuacan pyramids, and Templo Mayor offer glimpses into ancient culture, while the bohemian Frida Kahlo Museum depicts more modern times. In surrounding towns, such as San Miguel de Allende, Oaxaca, and Guadalajara, Mexico’s traditional arts and culture thrive.

Explore the Great Pyramid, the largest pyramid ever built and most impressive complex of ruins in Latin America, the Pyramids of Teotihuacán. The great pyramid of the sun is Teotihuacán. It is the second in size and was built with 2.5 million tons of stone and soil. Walk down the city's main avenue "Street of the Dead" and visit the Temple of Quetzalcoatl.  Admire beautiful prehispanic murals and visit the Nuestra Señora de los Remedios Church. In the colonial city of Puebla de los Angeles, seek out the highlights: the main square, the Cathedral, the Rosary Chapel and the House of Alfenique. While in Puebla enjoy the many baroque-style churches and appreciate great Mexican art in its wonderful museums.

Huatulco

One of Mexico's newer resort havens, Huatulco (pronounced wha-TOOL-koh) has everything that makes for a perfect holiday: modern hotels, a great variety of activities, and a sunny, dry climate.

Many of the nine bays and 36 golden beaches in the area remain undeveloped and accessible only by boat, since much of the area is a national wildlife preserve. Tangolunda Bay has deluxe hotels, an 18-hole golf course, deep-sea fishing, reef diving, and five lovely beaches. There’s no big city here, but the two small towns of La Crucesita and Santa Cruz make for a pleasant outing with their cafés and colourful shops.

Day trippers will want to head to nearby Puerto Escondido where lush vegetation gives the city a distinctly tropical character. Sightseeing in the area includes bay tours, eco-excursions and horseback riding. Come see why Huatulco is quickly becoming one of Mexico’s most popular destinations.
